In 2018 I patented a way to quote lawn mowing from aerial imagery. The idea was simple. Every mowing quote starts with the same question, how much grass is there?, and the answer is sitting in a photo taken from a plane. Nobody should have to drive across Sydney to look at a lawn.
Eight years on, the technology has finally caught up with the idea. Airmow is the result, and it's free for the people who actually mow.
The problem with quoting lawns
Ask any mowing contractor how they quote a new job and you'll hear one of three answers:
- Drive past. It's accurate, but it costs 20–40 minutes and fuel for a job you might not win.
- Ask for photos. It's slow, the customer forgets, and photos never show the side passage.
- Guess. It's fast, and it's how you end up mowing 600 m² for a 300 m² price.
Google Maps lets you draw a shape, but it can't tell grass from a driveway, a pool or the shadow of a tree. The number you get is the block, not the lawn.
What Airmow does
You give it an address. In about ten seconds Airmow:
- pulls high-resolution aerial imagery of the property,
- finds the house, sheds, pool and driveway, and cuts them out,
- separates the nature strip from the yard,
- checks shaded patches against earlier flights, so shade under a tree isn't miscounted as bare ground,
- gives you the mowable lawn in m², plus a 3D model of the property.
Then it prices the job from your own rate card, ready to send.
We're not another lead site
Most mowing businesses already get work from hipages, Airtasker, Facebook, their own website and word of mouth. We're not asking anyone to leave those.
The problem isn't finding leads. It's answering them fast enough while you're on the mower. On shared leads, the first good quote usually wins.
So Airmow works with what you already use. Forward your lead emails to your Airmow address, and every lead comes back with the lawn measured and a quote drafted from your rates. Tap once to copy the reply and open the lead. You go from replying that night to replying in a minute.
What else is in Airmow Pro
- Your own booking page, in your colours with your logo. Customers type their address and see an instant, measured price from your rates.
- Your suburbs, first in, first served. When homeowners come to Airmow directly, leads in your claimed suburbs go to you first, free.
- Agents that ask first. Missed-call text-backs, follow-ups, invoices, payment reminders and rain-day reschedules. Each one starts on Approve, so nothing goes out without your tap.
Some of this is live now, and some is rolling out through early access. We'll always say which is which.
Why it's free
Mowing is mostly sole traders working long days. The last thing they need is another monthly fee or a cut of every job. Airmow Pro has no lead fees, no commission and no contract. Customers stay yours, and you can export them any time. Later on there'll be optional paid extras, like an AI receptionist that answers your calls, but the core stays free.
Try it on a lawn you know
The best test is a lawn you already know. Measure three of your regulars and see how close it gets. If it's wrong, tell me. That's how it got this far.
